The Balwen Breed

Inspection Criteria

The following is a list of the current inspection criteria set down by the Balwen Breed Society.
It is based on a penalty points system.
It is constantly being reviewed in line with the changing needs of the breed.

LIST OF FAULTS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE PENALTY POINTS

Broken Blaze – 20 penalties
Insufficient socks – 5pts / leg
Excessive bib – 5 penalties
White in / on ears – 5 penalties
White tail to base - 10 penalties

REGISTRABLE MALES
No penalties allowed. All ram lambs must have four white socks, with no black in the white.

REGISTRABLE FEMALE
Twenty (20) penalty points and under for registration with at least two white socks. A sock is “a band of white hair that goes around the foot and touches the hoof at one or more points”.

DISQUALIFICATION (I.E. NOT REGISTRABLE) If...
Incorrect type
Whole or part pink nose
Star
Black tail
White in black in base colour
Panda face
Undershot jaw
Missing socks or black spots in socks (males)
No rams to be registered out of Grading Up females.
N.B. You cannot breed registrable stock from unregistered animals.

RAM LAMBS TO BE REGISTERED IN YEAR OF BIRTH. FEMALES WHICH MEET THE SAME EXACTING CRITERIA AS RAMS WILL BE CLASSED AS ELITE FEMALES.
